cricket Bbc Game

IPL cricket Info

Years ago cricket was said to be a gentlemen’s game but gradually as test cricket burnt itself out, focus shifted to hard hitting and defensive bowling and with no replacement for famous cricketers including Ian Botham, Richard Hadlee and Imran Khan from the eighties, India’s last sports victory was the world cup in 1983.
Cricket has improved dramatically since that time with the introduction of Indian premier League (IPL) in April 2008. Infusing new life into the game wasn’t only motivating for Indians but a very good sign for cricket fans around the world.
The introduction of T20 format cricket was originally introduced in Wales and England to woo back crowds of people and advertisers and the BBC, recognising the huge following in the UK created its own version of league matches in the T20 format and referred to it as the Indian Premier league or IPL.
With players from different countries in every team the concept was bound to be a huge success and promoted fabulously by its then chairman Mr Lalit Modi, its is actually the first sports event carried over to ‘YouTube’ to reach viewers around the world.
Each team is owned by business people or famous actors, in fact anyone who can afford to pay players and sponsor them and IPL cricketers are actually bought through an ‘auction’ making it unique among other cricketing events.
The IPL has most certainly brought cricket to the forefront of sport once more and at the same time created a sense of unity and trust among international cricketers who have never played together before.
The IPL cricket league is among the most awaited sporting events of the year and is said to be watched by over a billion individuals around the world. Nearly seventy percent of these viewers are from India or Pakistan where cricket has become classed as more of a religion than just a sport.
