cricket World Cup 2011 dvd
There was a time when cricket was categorised as a gentlemen’s game but through the years as test cricket burnt itself out, emphasis shifted to hard hitting and defensive bowling and with no replacement for famous cricketers such as Ian Botham, Richard Hadlee and Imran Khan from the 1980′s, India’s last sports success was the world cup in 1983.
Cricket has improved substantially since then with the introduction of Indian premier League (IPL) in April 2008. Infusing new life into the game wasn’t only encouraging for Indians but a good sign for cricket fans worldwide.
Initially started in England and Wales to woo back crowds and advertisers, the introduction of T20 cricket quickly became popular and the BBC, recognising the enormous following in the uk developed its own version of league matches in the T20 format and referred to it as the Indian Premier league or IPL.
With every team composed of players from various nationalities, the concept was bound to be a success and marketed fabulously by its then chairman Mr Lalit Modi, its was genuinely the first sports event carried over to ‘YouTube’ to reach viewers across the globe.
Each team is owned by business men or celebrities, in fact anybody who is able to afford to pay players and sponsor them and IPL cricketers are in fact bought through an ‘auction’ making it unique among other cricketing events.
The IPL has undoubtedly brought cricket to the forefront of sport once more and at the same time created a sense of unity and trust among international cricketers who have never played together before.
Now watched by over a billion individuals worldwide, the IPL cricket league is already among the most anticipated occasions of the year and seventy percent of viewers are said to be from Pakistan and India alone where it is considered more of a religion than a sport.
